WHAT IS SIN -- And GOD's Remedy to His WRATH against SIN?

The LOVE of GOD for ALL sinners (you and me alike) has been revealed -- through the DEATH of CHRIST JESUS on Calvary's CROSS.

BUT the WRATH of GOD for SIN (yours and mine alike) has ALSO been revealed -- at Calvary's CROSS when the sinS of SINful men were JUDGED through the DEATH of The GOD-Man, Who was Himself the sinLESS, blameLESS, spotLESS Lamb of GOD -- the ONE and the ONLY Perfect SACRIFICE for SIN and sinS, the ONE and the ONLY infinitely qualified SUBSTITUTE Who offered HIS OWN BLOOD as the FULL atoning Payment for the SINs of men, for those who would BELIEVE INto Him, for those who would trust ONLY in JESUS' fully accomplished Work of SALVATION -- not trusting in their OWN SELF-glorifying "righteous" works to save themselves from HELL, not trusting in their OWN "good" works, which are but 'FILTHY rags' in the sight of The THRICE-Holy GOD, Creator of the entire Universe (the realms of the visible and the INvisible).

WHAT IS SIN? WHAT is that word "SIN" that has almost been obliterated by man's efforts to excuse his sinS? The TRUE meaning of SIN has been toned down, watered down, dumbed down by philosophers, psychologists and postmodern thinkers by REdefining SINs as BUT mistakes in life, or socially UNacceptable, politically INcorrect actions -- due to one's character defects, inherited tendencies from one's genetic makeup, MISbehaviors caused by childhood traumas.

BUT WHAT IS SIN to The THRICE-Holy GOD Who created ALL things, great and small, visible and INvisible -- Who gives LIFE to ALL of HIS Creation (you and i included)? WHAT is that SIN that caused The GOD of LOVE to send His ONLY Begotten SON to DIE on The CROSS for that SIN which He ABOMINATES, and the resulting sinS which He HATES?

IT IS WRITTEN -- 'GOD’s WRATH is revealed from Heaven against ALL UNgodliness and UNrighteousness of people who by their UNrighteousness suppress the TRUTH' (Romans 1:18). GOD's HOLY Scriptures UNequivocally, UNambiguously, UNapologetically define SIN as BEing UNgodly and DOing UNrighteously. SIN is the breaking of GOD's Law -- The TEN Commandments, His HOLY Rules for living out LIFE-101.

The REAL essence of SIN is UNGODLINESS -- an UNgodly RELATIONSHIP with GOD -- a wrongful attitude or mindset against GOD, a heart set in rebellion against GOD. "UNGODLINESS means a REFUSAL in ANY shape or form to live ENTIRELY and ONLY to GOD's Glory and to the Praise of His HOLY Name. ANY failure to do that or ANY lack of desire to do that is SIN" (Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones). UNGODLINESS is the transgression of GOD's First Commandment -- 'You shall have NO OTHER gods before Me' -- the SIN of enthroning in one's heart ANY created person (SELF, spouse, child; Mary, Buddha, Muhammed; rich-and-famous shaker-mover/head-of-state, celebrity/politician/philosopher -- dead or alive) OR thing (money, sex, food/drugs, nationality, man-made religions/philosophies, etc).

SIN is the breaking of ANY of GOD's TEN COMMANDMENTS -- by thought/motive or actual deed -- 'You must not have ANY OTHER god BUT Me. You must not make for yourself an IDOL of ANY kind or an IMAGE of ANYthing in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must NOT MISUSE the Name of The LORD your GOD. Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. HONOR your father and mother. You must NOT MURDER. You must NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. You must NOT STEAL. You must NOT TESTIFY FALSELY against your neighbor. You must NOT COVET (NOT LUST AFTER) your neighbor’s house, or your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or ANYthing else that belongs to your neighbor.' (see Exodus 20:3-17)

As summed up by The LORD JESUS, the first and greatest Commandment is -- ‘You shall LOVE The LORD your GOD with ALL your Heart, with ALL your Soul, with ALL your Strength, and with ALL your mind.' And just as important is -- 'You shall LOVE your NEIGHBOR AS yourself. The ENTIRE Law and ALL the demands of the Prophets are based on these TWO Commandments' (see Matthew 22:37-40). SIN is the breaking of the first and greatest Commandment -- of not loving GOD with ALL of one's BEing. It is having a WRONG relationship with GOD. SIN is BEing UNgodly -- not BEing in a RIGHT relationship with GOD.

NO ONE in the ENTIRE human race (dead or alive) has EVER obeyed PERFECTLY the first and greatest Commandment -- ‘You shall LOVE The LORD your GOD with ALL your Heart, with ALL your Soul, with ALL your Strength, and with ALL your mind' -- except the Man JESUS. NO man who has EVER lived (past or present) has obeyed PERFECTLY the second and equally important Commandment -- 'You must LOVE your NEIGHBOR AS you LOVE yourSELF' -- except the Man JESUS.

NO ONE IS RIGHTEOUS because NO ONE IS GODLY. We who are GOD's creatures were made in His HOLY image so that we may GLORIFY Him. BUT we ALL have FALLEN short of glorifying HIM. 'As the Scriptures say, “NO ONE IS RIGHTeous—NOT EVEN ONE! NO ONE IS TRULY WISE; NO ONE IS SEEKING GOD. ALL HAVE TURNED AWAY; ALL HAVE BECOME USELESS. NO ONE DOES GOOD, NOT A SINGLE ONE. Their TALK is FOUL, like the STENCH from an open grave. Their TONGUES are FILLED WITH LIES. Snake VENOM drips from their LIPS. Their MOUTHS are FULL of CURSING and BITTERNESS. They RUSH to COMMIT MURDER. DESTRUCTION and MISERY ALWAYS FOLLOW them. They DON'T KNOW where to find PEACE. They have NO FEAR of GOD at all.”' (Romans 3:10-18) 

'ALL HAVE SINNED and FALL  SHORT of The GLORY of GOD!' (Romans 3:23) ALL have committed countless sinS of UNrighteousness as the CONSEQUENCE of the SIN of BEing UNgodly. NO ONE can be TRULY righteous without GOD. GODliness and RIGHTeousness are INseparable. INward GODliness is always commanded FIRST -- TRUE RIGHTeousness is then the OUTcome of BEing rightly related to GOD. WHAT, then, is GOD's Remedy to man's SIN-nature (UNgodliness) and his resulting sinS (UNrighteousness)? GOD Himself is THE Remedy. GOD The SON, Who was sent of GOD The FATHER, came down from His heavenly Kingdom to this darkened world, to RECONCILE sinners back to personal fellowship with GOD. We are ALL sinners by nature -- under the WRATH of GOD, without any hope of escaping HELL...

BUT GOD -- PRAISE Him, The FATHER of our LORD JESUS CHRIST -- Who is Himself LOVE Incarnate IN CHRIST, brought TRUTH and GRACE IN the very Person of Messiah JESUS, Whom GOD SENT to DELIVER us SIN-natured SIN-doers from SIN, SELF, Satan, SEPARATION (from GOD, eternally) and SUFFERING (from EVERlasting HELL). Dear reader... is The Almighty Sovereign GOD your FATHER in Heaven? Is CHRIST JESUS your LORD, your Almighty Savior? Is the Holy SPIRIT your Almighty ADVOCATE, your Helper and Comforter? Your ETERNAL DESTINY is made REAL in the PRESENT... in the NOW, with HOW you respond to the GOOD News of GOD. So TURN from your SINs and TRUST that GOD sent CHRIST JESUS to take your just punishment for your SIN of UNgodliness and sinS of UNrighteousness. BELIEVE with SAVING Faith IN JESUS' Perfect LIFE, Atoning DEATH on the Cross, Factual RESURRECTION and ASCENSION back to His original GLORY with The FATHER as GOD's ONLY method of saving sinners from Eternal HELL. 'TOday, if you will hear GOD's voice, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTs as in the rebellion.' (Psalm 95:7-8; Hebrews 3:15) RECEIVE GOD's PERFECT and ONLY Remedy for your SIN of UNgodliness and sinS of UNrighteousness -- CHRIST JESUS Himself, 'full of GRACE and TRUTH.' The LORD JESUS Himself IS 'The WAY and The TRUTH and The LIFE. NO ONE comes to The FATHER except through Him' (see John 14:6).

NO One Is GOOD But ONE

Now behold, one came and said to Him (JESUS), "Good Teacher, what good thing shall i do that i may have eternal life?" So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, GOD. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments." (Matthew 19:16-17)

The TEN COMMANDMENTS:

1 You shall have no other gods before Me.
2 You shall not make to yourself any graven image.
3 You shall not take the name of the LORD your GOD in vain.
4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5 Honor your father and mother.
6 You shall not kill.
7 You shall not commit adultery.
8 You shall not steal.
9 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10 You shall not covet. (Exodus 20:1-17)

If your GOD is not the One True GOD as revealed in His Word, the Holy Scriptures; or if you've loved money, your job, your self (or any other person or thing) more than GOD -- you've broken the First Commandment of GOD, Sovereign Creator of all the heavens and all the earth.

If you've prayed to a statue of Buddha, the Virgin Mary, a "sacred cow" or your "good luck" charm on your gold bracelet -- or "bowed down" to your Corvette or Hummer -- you've broken the Second Commandment of GOD. (Any idol or even just a concept of GOD that is inaccurate is an idol, a violation of the second commandment.)

If you've cussed using GOD's name, spoken the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST as an expletive -- you've broken the Third Commandment of GOD.

If you've not honored GOD on the one day of the week He declared as your day of rest and worship (whether Saturday or Sunday, depending on your religious affiliation) -- you've broken the Fourth Commandment of GOD.

If you've disrespected or mistreated your parents in any way -- you've broken the fifth Commandment of GOD.

If you've gotten angry at someone without just cause (road rage anyone?) -- you've broken the sixth Commandment of GOD. (JESUS said, "But I say, if you are angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the high council. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell." Matthew 5:22, NLT)

If you've lusted after a woman (or man) who's not your spouse, even without committing the actual physical sexual act; or if you're into pornography -- you've broken the seventh Commandment of GOD. (JESUS said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:28)

If you've "borrowed" someone's property without permission or stolen anything, even if it's only a pen from the office or a pack of gum from the store: you're a thief -- you've broken the eighth Commandment of GOD.

If you've gossiped or lied, even if it's a "white" lie or 99.9% truth, you're a liar -- you've broken the ninth Commandment of GOD.

If you've ever coveted something that didn't belong to you (covet = to long inordinately or unlawfully, to hanker after something forbidden, to wish, long or crave for something, especially the property of another person) -- you've broken the tenth Commandment of GOD.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8)

If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (1 John 1:10)

As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10; Psalm 14:3)

The Day of Judgment is when GOD's longsuffering and love are perfectly manifested with His holy righteousness and justice. "That Day of Judgment will come," says the Sovereign LORD. "Everything will happen just as I have declared it." (Ezekiel 39:8)

JESUS said, "But all who reject Me and My message will be judged at the Day of Judgment by the truth I have spoken." (John 12:48)

But no, you won't listen. So you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself because of your stubbornness in refusing to turn from your sin. For there is going to come a Day of Judgment when GOD, the just Judge of all the world, will judge all people according to what they have done. (Romans 2:5-6)

The day will surely come when GOD, by JESUS CHRIST, will judge everyone's secret life. (Romans 2:16)

The Day of Judgment is like the Law of Gravity -- you can't see "gravity" itself with the naked eye, but its effects are 100% guaranteed -- whether you believe it or not. If you step off a 250-story skyscraper because you don't believe in the Law of Gravity -- you will be scraped off the sidewalk that caught your free-flight downwards.

Likewise, the Day of Judgment -- whether you believe in it or not -- will come. GOD said so. It is written in His Holy Book. GOD's Word is Truth. It is Revelation already fulfilled and about to be fulfilled -- The LORD Almighty says, "The day of judgment is coming, burning like a furnace. The arrogant and the wicked will be burned up like straw on that day. They will be consumed like a tree--roots and all." (Malachi 4:1)

Get real. Recognize that GOD is a holy and just GOD. You have broken His Ten Commandments -- the Standard by which all mankind will be judged on the coming Day of Judgment -- and you and i will be judged (the unbeliever at the Great White Throne Judgment -- Revelation 20:11-14; the believer at the Bema Judgment).

Repent. See your naked heart the way a holy and righteous GOD sees it -- there are no secrets from GOD. Turn from your sins -- stop being your own god -- and turn to the One True GOD for forgiveness and grace.

For GOD is also Love. He has already provided the means of payment for your sins -- His own blood has redeemed you. He gave His only begotten Son -- CHRIST JESUS -- to be sacrificed on the Cross so that you may be justified in His sight. (John 3:16-18)

Believe in the resurrection of JESUS CHRIST -- it is historical truth -- it is fact. Confess with your mouth that JESUS is LORD, Sovereign King -- GOD the Son. Commit your self to Him... trust Him with your life -- and the Holy SPIRIT will come to live in your body and soul the life of CHRIST. You will become a new creature -- born again in SPIRIT, alive in CHRIST JESUS.

Time is short -- the prophetic signs described in the Bible abound all around us -- just examine world wide events. The latest prophecies concerning Israel were fulfilled in this generation.

Don't sue this messenger or anyone else who comes to you sharing GOD's Word -- the Truth that cannot be denied (though people have tried since Creation). We share only what GOD says in the Bible -- the Truth. We share the Good News out of love for the CHRIST -- JESUS, GOD the Son -- not out of condemnation (for we ourselves were under condemnation), but because we desire that none should perish to eternal condemnation.

For me, it's like this: i see someone lollygagging in the street, with a truck speeding towards him/her. Will i politely ask him to get out of the way...will i take the time to build a relationship with him first before telling him that a truck is about to mow him down? Or will i warn him loudly, "GET OUT OF THE WAY -- A TRUCK IS COMING!"

So i declare and write loudly, "THE HOLY JUDGE IS COMING!"

But just remember that they will have to face GOD, Who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead. (1 Peter 4:5)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His commandments have good understanding. (Psalm 111:10)

Jews and Gentiles -- Children of Almighty GOD

The longing of my heart and my prayer to GOD is that the Jewish people might be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have for GOD, but it is misdirected zeal. For they don't understand GOD's way of making people right with Himself. Instead, they are clinging to their own way of getting right with GOD by trying to keep the Law. They won't go along with GOD's way. For CHRIST has accomplished the whole purpose of the Law. All who believe in Him are made right with GOD.

For Moses wrote that the Law's way of making a person right with GOD requires obedience to all of its commands. But the way of getting right with GOD through faith says, "You don't need to go to heaven" (to find CHRIST and bring Him down to help you). And it says, "You don't need to go to the place of the dead" (to bring CHRIST back to life again). Salvation that comes from trusting CHRIST--which is the message we preach--is already within easy reach. In fact, the Scriptures say, "The message is close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart."

For if you confess with your mouth that JESUS is Lord and believe in your heart that GOD raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with GOD, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who believes in Him will not be disappointed." Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They all have the same Lord, who generously gives His riches to all who ask for them. For "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, "Lord, who has believed our message?" Yet faith comes from listening to this message of good news--the Good News about CHRIST.
But what about the Jews? Have they actually heard the message? Yes, they have: "The message of GOD's creation has gone out to everyone, and its words to all the world."

But did the people of Israel really understand? Yes, they did, for even in the time of Moses, GOD had said, "I will rouse your jealousy by blessing other nations. I will make you angry by blessing the foolish Gentiles."

And later Isaiah spoke boldly for GOD: "I was found by people who were not looking for Me. I showed Myself to those who were not asking for Me."

But regarding Israel, GOD said, "All day long I opened my arms to them, but they kept disobeying Me and arguing with Me." (Romans 10:1-21)

Paul, the apostle, wrote the above about A.D. 57 to the CHRISTian church in Rome, which included mostly Jewish followers, but also many Gentiles (people of any nationality other than Jewish). This letter was intended for all believers of the GOOD News then, but also for everyone today who has ever sinned. For haven't we all sinned by breaking one (or four or five or ALL) of the Laws of GOD? Can any of us truthfully say that he/she has not broken a single one of the Ten Commandments, or any of the 613 mitzvot (commandments, ordinances, rules for life) contained in the Mosaic Law? (The Mosaic law begins with the Ten Commandments and includes the many rules of religious observance given in the first five books of the Old Testament.)

One may argue that since he/she is not of Jewish heritage, he/she is not under obligation to follow the Mosaic Law. True. But we are ALL under GOD, under His authority, for we are all His Creation...and ALL us have rebelled against GOD. (Whether you believe in GOD or not, it doesn't alter the fact that there is a Creator of the created; a Designer of the design. Can SOMEthing come from NOthing? Can the gazillion galaxies come about out of thin air? Even "thin air" had to have been created. Can a watch -- taken apart, with all its intricate parts jumbled in a box -- put itself together, even after a million years in the box?)

If a person is Jewish but still an UNbeliever (not trusting that JESUS is the Messiah), then that person is a Gentile at heart. And if a person is a Gentile (male or female, black or white or brown or yellow or pink, Bolivian or American, Chinese or Aborigine, Maori or Filipino; whether homosexual "gone straight" or adulterer "gone monogamous" or ex-addict "gone clean" -- raised as Buddhist or Catholic or Baptist or Mormon or Jew or Muslim or atheist or just confused), but has trusted JESUS as LORD of his/her life, REPENTED of his/her sins (TRUE repentance is confessing/agreeing with GOD about his/her sins, asking for forgiveness and turning away from sin and turning to GOD) and made a conscious decision of the WILL to COMMIT and SURRENDER his/her life to JESUS -- then he/she is "of the circumcision"...a Jew at heart...adopted into the family of GOD's chosen people.

Some of the branches from Abraham's tree, some of the Jews, have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, were grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing GOD has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in GOD's rich nourishment of His special olive tree. But you must be careful not to brag about being grafted in to replace the branches that were broken off. Remember, you are just a branch, not the root. (Romans 11:17-18.GOD is indeed abundant in grace. To everyone on earth, whether Jew or Gentile, He gives the free gift of salvation... redemption... freedom from sin's wage of death -- out of His infinite store of abundant grace. And what is grace? Unearned, unmerited, undeserved favor or good will of GOD. So that no one may boast of his good works, so that no one may say he/she was good enough. No one ever was, ever is, or ever will be good enough in the sight of GOD. GOD is so beyond our finite concept of what is good -- GOD is holy -- perfectly and infinitely holy! Can we ever measure up to His standard of goodness and holiness? Of course not...and if you are honest with yourself, you'll agree -- not with what i say, but with the Truth, which is written in your heart -- your GOD-given conscience.

GOD only gave us Ten Commandments, us Gentiles, that is. The Jews were given the whole 613, given to Moses to give to the Jewish people. But even with "just" ten laws, we've utterly failed. Who has not stolen (a pen at work, a candy from the store bin, time off the clock at work), or not lied ("white," 99% of the truth, or kept silent about a truth, are all lies in GOD's sight), or not committed adultery in his/her heart (anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart -- Matthew 5:28); or not coveted (his neighbor's wife, or car, or Blackberry); or not cussed or blasphemed; or not honored his/her parents; or not killed in actuality or in our thoughts (abortion; whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment -- the same judgment due a murderer -- Matthew 5:22); or not guilty of idolatry (You shall have no other gods before Me -- the number one commandment of GOD's Top Ten, as written in Exodus 20:3-17 and repeated in Deuteronomy 5:7-21 for all of us slow learners).

Who has not broken the number one commandment? Who has not set up himself or herself as his or her own personal god? Who has not given a tea party for me, myself and i? Who has not allowed husband/wife/lover, job, money, addiction, pride, or personal agenda to become even more important than GOD -- the Source of all that a person is, the Source of all that a person has -- including life itself?

We are all guilty. We are all under the condemnation of our sins. We will all face judgment. Believe it or not. Just as the laws of nature have been set -- that for every action, there is an equal re-action ; that whatever a person plants, that he/she will also harvest. There's a consequence for each choice made...not just in the physical realm, but also in the spiritual.

WHAT then is the answer? The REMEDY to our man-made dilemma? Read again Romans 10:9-13. For those who are still yearning to be filled with abundant LIFE! here in the NOW and in the inevitable HEREAFTER of Death; for those who are still searching for that indescribable JOY that is far beyond all the fleeting emotional highs of happiness found in the things of this world; for those who long to be loved just as they are, to be accepted as is, in all his/her unsightly warts and scars -- here is the key to PEACE...peace and security and confidence and joy and contentment and yes...the HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER ending of your story here on earth.For IF you CONFESS with your mouth that JESUS is The LORD and BELIEVE in your HEART that GOD raised Him from the Dead, you will be SAVED. For it is by BELIEVING in your HEART that you are made right with GOD, and it is by CONFESSING with your mouth that you are SAVED. As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who believes in Him will not be disappointed." Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They ALL have the same LORD, who generously gives His riches to ALL who ask for them. For "Anyone who calls on the Name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST will be SAVED."
